The American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM), established in 2004, is an independent, non-profit organization that tests dentists' knowledge and clinical skill in treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. Dentists who meet its certification requirements are recognized as Diplomates.
To earn it, a dentist completes advanced education in dental sleep medicine, demonstrates clinical experience treating patients with oral appliances, and passes a comprehensive written examination. The ABDSM describes Diplomate status as the gold standard for excellence in dental sleep medicine.
